NSW: Commonwealth Bank to cut 1,000 jobs

CBA says amid the uncertain and challenging environment it faces, it's pushing aheadwith a restructure, which began last December.

The bank says it'll axe 1,000 positions by the end of this financial year.

It says the job cuts are designed to eliminate duplication, inefficiencies and someback office processing.

CBA had earlier announced 500 job cuts and says a further 1,550 positions are no longer needed.

At the same time, the bank expects to increase job positions by 550, mainly in itscustomer service division.

The banks says while attempts will be made to redeploy displaced staff, staff willreceive a redundancy package where that's not possible.
